Of the three Pervian eco-systems, coastal dessert, mountains and jungle, we had not experienced the jungle in our time in Peru. We decided to spend some time in the Amazonian Jungle at a lodge near to the City of Iquitos.

After visiting Cusco earlier in the year on  out way to Machu Pichu , we were keen to go back in order to visit the other Inca sites near Cusco.

CIP Farewell and Accreditation Certificate Presentation

The project David was leading came to a successful fruition at the end of February with the accreditation of the CIP Genebank. The Certificate of Accreditation was presented by David to Dr Pamela Anderson, the Director of CIP at a leaving party held at the Centre.

Kind words of appreciation for David's work at CIP were given by Pamela Anderson and Ian Barker. David gave a little speech in Spanish about how rich and interesting the year in Peru had turned out to be. 

Party at Reinhards House

Staff from the Centre organised an informal farewell party for David and Cathy at Rheinhard's house. A fun evening in true Peruvian style with lots of eating and dancing  was had by all. 
 

Meal at Chala in Barranco

Our favorite restaurant, Chala, hosted our last farewell gathering with friends from CIP and beyond. A fine evening, soaking up the bohemian Barranco atmosphere and sampling the fine food with friends who had been such an important part of our year away was a great way to end our time in Lima.

Well the year is finally over.

Ha sido un gran año en el Perú para Cathy y David. Durante el año hemos aprendido muchas cosas sobre el Perú y la cultura del pueblo peruano. Cuando estábamos en el Colca nos dijeron sobre los tres elementos fundamentales de la forma de vida andina --

En primer lugar el respeto de los elementos de la naturaleza - la tierra, el agua y el sol

En segundo lugar de ir por la vida con calma y en silencio

Y por último la idea de reciprocidad - dar amistad y ayuda en lo que se puede y volver a recibir estos con agradecimiento y humildad

La reciprocidad es una parte muy importante de la vida de Cathy y David

Durante un año nuestro en el Perú, el Perú nos ha dado muchos recuerdos increíbles.

La maravillosa puesta del sol en la playa de Huanchaco
Y, por último, la maravillosa amistad que nos mostró la gente en el CIP

 Espero que hayamos dado amistad y mas en reprocidad a nuestros amigos del CIP y en general a nuestros amigos en Peru.
