Welcome to the Big Walks Club Website

The Big Walks Club website was set up to record my mountain adventures and was originally inspired by the Ken Wilson's wonderful Big Walks and Classic Climbs books. The site will  hopefully also inspire and help others enjoy their own mountain experiences.

The site provides information about expeditions being planned, as well as reports and photographs from previous trips.

Trip Reports are posted on the website as they happen. The most popular reports on the site include :

the Cuillin Ridge Traverse the GR20 in Corsica the John Muir Trail
the Brenta Dolomites climb of Mont Blanc classic climbs on Skye

Video films have been made of most of trips. These would help greatly in the planning stage if you are thinking of repeating any expeditions and are produced very professionally. If you would like a DVD please go to Trip Reports for details of how to get hold of copies.

A section giving Useful Links is provided for information on weather and routes.

Please leave an e-mail  message if you want any more information about the routes we have completed or if you would like to join me in the Mountains.  It's great  to hear from like minded souls.

News and Latest Additions

2011 will be a Munro bagging year with the focus on the North West Highlands area. Go to the North-West Highlands page to see the progress.

The main trip for 2010 was the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The route started in Yosemite and ended on the top of Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the 48 States. A real wilderness experience, this required load carrying of 8-10 days food, and was a big logistical as well as physical challenge. Report from the trip has now been posted.

David of the Big Walks Club, spent April 2007 to April 2008 working in Lima, Peru. Information on a really interesting and fulfilling year can be found on the One Year in Peru  website.

The site is dedicated to the memory of my Dad, John Galsworthy, Group Scout Leader of the 11th Warrington Troop and loving father, who gave me the skills to climb all the mountains in my life
